Lakeba Innovation tournment with Coba turned off

The six month journey for all the Customer Owned Banking Associations (COBA) members has come to an end. This exciting experience resulted in fantastic prototypes for the banking industry and a great way to bring a change of culture and collaboration.

The Project COBA -Innovation Incubator-

The project started as an “Innovation Incubator” and was organised in three stages:

  1. Stage 1: Ideation Day, when teams formed ideas
  2. Stage 2: Innovation Incubator – Pitch Day -, when teams presented ideas
  3. Stage 3: Showcase Day, when teams presented prototypes, culminating on the 25th February 2016.

These prototypes are now ready for development thanks to the hard work of all the participants, the guidance of business mentors, and  the support of COBA members with their generous donations of time, funds and people.

“Without questions, just go and do it. If you like thinking outside the box, get to create your own box!” said Mathew Khoury, teachers’ Mutual Bank (bare) and contributor of the event.

The sentence reflects the spirit of the project which received positive feedback from almost all the attendees.

As Mark Degotardi, the CEO of COBA, stated at the beginning of the video: “We can actually do something here together”. Ideas are captured and analysed in detail, transformed step by step into something real, and evolve into viable solutions to improve banking and financial processes.

The events took place in Lakeba offices and we are proud of having so many brilliant minds under our roof; we are grateful to be engaged witnesses of the creativity process that brings COBA to increase innovation, proactivity and enhance their industry.

It was a wonderful achievement for all industries involved and Lakeba looks forward to work with COBA and its members again to commercialise the prototypes presented during the event.

Look the world with cats’ eyes with Catstacam and Lakeba

Lakeba worked successfully with Clemenger BBDO Sydney for Whiskas on CATSTACAM, the first camera to give cats a social media presence.

Whiskas Catstacam is the winner for AC&E 2015 (read more here http://acandeawards.com/2015-winners/). But how did this idea start and how did the Lakeba Group contribute to its realisation?

Case Study or The Catsta-Story

Have you ever wondered what your cat was trying to tell you with its actions? With Whiskas Catstacam your pet can interact with you in a way like never before!

Whiskas is an internationally known cat food brand, but it has never been considered an expert in cat behaviour.

So how can they change that?

The answer:“Whiskas Catstacam”, a social media solution to help people better understand their cats by seeing the word through their eyes.

Lakeba Group in collaboration with Clemenger BBDO Sydney built cameras that let cats take photos from their point of view and automatically post on their very own Instagram account.

Why Catstacam changed cats’lifes?

Catstacam gives people the chance to see the world through cats’ eyes and to better understand their behaviour.

In fact, each photo brings a specific cat behaviour into light. Thanks to #askwhiskas on Instagram, in a few weeks, Whiskas will have answered more than hundreds of cat-related questions with a 400% uplift in sales and over 13 million earned media.

The Catstacam campaign went viral, featured on blogs and news sites all around the world generating over then one million views of the online film and 585 million media impressions.

The Lakeba Group, with Clemenger BBDO Sydney and Whiskas, collaborate  to give users a completely new perspective. This dedication to creativity gives Whiskas more than an idea, but an invention that combines  innovation, social media, and marketing to produce the one and only Catstacam.

Innovation is important for corporates and start-ups

Innovation is important for corporates and start-ups

“Innovation is for corporates and start-ups”.

Check out this article from Darren Younger, our CEO – Commercialisation of Lakeba Group.

The CEO of Lakeba Group, which specialises in rapid commercialisation and innovation technology, has analysed four cases in other countries (Spain, England, Canada and Denmark) to identify innovation in a concrete way. He looked four ways the federal government and corporations have created a culture of creativity and make engaged the community.

Is there any innovation for corporates in Australia?

Darren Younger regrets not the lack of this support for innovation in Australia. Even though commitment and federal government funding exist, they are not really used for any innovative projects like those that Younger describes.

“We need to implement and monetise advances in technology in order to move forward as a nation” and “The problem I see is that Australia is lagging behind the rest of the Western world” wrote Younger.

He continued: “Corporate business needs to be fully plugged into the innovation equation. These companies have the resources and manpower to implement new technologies at a fast pace. They also have marketing departments”.

An example of partnership in action

He gave an example of “partnership in action” to clarify further. Recently, an operation called Sydney Sports Incubator has been created and supported by the Sydney Olympic Park Authority, Lakeba Group, and NSW Institute of Sport. This incubator is designed to help companies and start-ups build on their innovative products and services.

Darren Younger insists innovation is as important for large corporations as it is for start-ups and he suggests, instead of spending money on advertising to build awareness of why innovation is important, to show successful case studies to underline how innovation is important.
